Spalted Maple, Silver and Gold-Filled Inlay Diamond Earrings
These earrings have been sculpted from maple, which has undergone “spalting”, meaning that the wood has been allowed to decay slightly, and is then subsequently dried (preventing further decay). This can give the wood dark contrasting lines and streaks, which really pop against the lighter-colored maple! This pair have been shaped into curvy rounded diamonds, and then a mixed-metal effect of silver line inlay and gold-filled dot inlay have been added.
The earrings have sterling silver, hand-forged ear wires.
Length of earrings: 1 3/4″
Dimensions of wood: 7/8″ long x 1″ wide x 3/16″ deep
All my wood jewelry is sealed with wax for a fine shine and protection.
