Blackwood and Gold-Filled Inlay “Illinois” Earrings
Sometimes called African Blackwood, or mpingo in Swahili, this naturally dark wood is considered to be one of the hardest in the world – and is often used to make musical instruments such as oboes. The intensity of its dark hue makes it a great base for gold-filled inlay! This pair is sculpted (abstractly) with the idea of the shape of the state of Illinois – for fun, the dot inlay indicates where Chicago and Springfield (the capital) fits on the map! A cute conversation piece that could also be worn every day.
The are finished with hand-forged, gold-filled ear wires.
Length of earrings: 1 1/2″
Dimensions of wood: approximately 3/4″ long x 3/8″ wide
All my wood jewelry is sealed with wax for a fine shine and protection.
